Collies are a beautiful dog that come in a variety of different colors. Colors include sable and white, tricolor, blue merle, and white. They have very "floofy" fur that keeps them warm. They range from 22-26 inches in height, and weigh in between 50-75 pounds. Their life expectancy is 12-14 years and they are one of the most beloved family dogs, especially after the television shows and movies all about the dog named Lassie in the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.
The breed originated in Scotland and they originally called it the "shepherd's doggie." Later they changed the name to "collay" and the name has evolved to what it is now. They were one of the first dogs, so there isn't really much knowing when they first originated.
The AKC group the collie belongs to is the Herding Group.
Fun fact: There are other types of collies other than the rough collie.
