History: The Maine Coon is from New England, hailing from Maine. They were known for hunting mice on farms and even ships dating back as early as the 19th century. Some people have said that the Vikings brought the cat to North America, some other people say that the descendant of the cat belonged to Marie Antoinette. Their name is from the cats that didn't have the brown tabby coat which was called Maine Shags. The first published Maine Coon dates back to 1861 about a black and white cat named Captain Jenks of the Horse Marines.

Interesting Fact: Some Maine Coons years ago had 6 toes on each paw, this helped the cat move more freely in environments that was covered in snowfall and helped them hunt prey.
