The basset hound is no higher than 14 inches and weights 50 to 65lbs. Long black, short legs, and droopy ears. Any hound color; black and white- mahogany.
The basset hound comes from the 1500's. The French used them to track rabbits. The word 'bas' is french for 'low' fitting the hounds stature. They were selected because of their scent skills and so the hunters could keep up with them.
