Blue Heeler

History: Blue heelers or Australian cattle dogs were created in 1840 as a hard working dog that would bite at the heels of larger animals. They were also breed because they could withstand harsh heat and terrain. They are also “silent workers” because they hardly ever bark. They were accepted into the Kennel Club of NSW in 1903 but was not recognized to the AKC until 1980.

Description: Australian Cattle Dogs can be Blue and Red. They stand from 17 to 20 inches. Males weigh between 33-35 and lbs females are from 31-35 lbs. Both Blue and Red Heelers are born white and later turns red or blue-gray. They are longer in there body with comparison with their height.

Behavior: A Heeler’s temperament is alert, curious, and pleasant. They are known for being extremely smart. If not challenged a Heeler will get into mischief.

Heelers love to learn new things. A good way to keep them entertained is to teach them something knew.

The breed was created with a Dalmatian, collie and a dingo
